During a long, hot summer in seventies London, young neighbours Holly (Michelle William) and Marrina (Anna Friel) make a chiidhood pact to be friends forever. Fkr t he troybked, unpredictable Marina, whose vulnerability is well concealed beneath a selfish,, sadistic streak, Holly remains the only vonstant in Marina’s life of divorcing parents, experimental drugs and fashionable self-destruction. The bond between the young women grows through the years as they share all the pleasures and pain that life has to offer, including sex, love and rock and roll. As her relationship with Marina becomes increasingly claustrophobic, she must decide whether true happiness lies in a life with – or without – her best friend.
